The Visconti-Sforza were the ruling house of Milan in the 15th century and commissioned a number of tarot decks. These are among the earliest surviving decks. Cards from 16 different decks survive, from single cards to the most complete, the Pierpont Morgan deck, with 74 of the original 78 cards, which is the source for these reproductions. The four missing cards have been reconstructed (among them, the Death card) and all have been restored to produce this splendid deck. As you can see from the cards shown below, these are not old & worn out. On the face cards and major arcana, the restorer has made lavish use of gold foil.

Description: One doesn’t have to think much past this deck’s title to know what it’s all about. Hieroglyphic-style figures representing ancient Egyptian deities and “common folk” represent the tarot archetypes, set against a papyrus (or perhaps fabric) background. Alasia has illustrated several other Lo Scarabeo tarots, including the Etruscan Tarot and the Mayan Tarot. Justice is VIII with Strength XI.

Description: Celtic-themed tarot, generally executed in the Rider-Waite tradition. The cards of the major arcana are illustrated by Giacinto Gaudenzi, and feature Celtic myths, gods and heroes. The minor arcana are illustrated by Saverio Tenuta, with each suit representing an ethnic group or people who lived in Ireland: the Fomori (Wands), the Fianna (Cups/Chalices), the Ulaid (Swords), and the Tuatha De Danann (Pentacles). The Colors are bright and La-Scarabeo has its usual great card stock and size.
